The chairman of the Association of European Journalists, Richard Moore, has passed on his condolences to the family of former RTE broadcaster, Derek Davis, who has died.
Mr Moore said: “On behalf of the membership of the Irish Section of the AEJ, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies on the passing of Derek. Many of us in the AEJ fondly recall Derek who attended and contributed to our gatherings. He was a journalist and broadcaster who was always generous with his help and assistance to colleagues.”
Derek Davis started as a news reporter with the American network ABC, and then BBC Northern Ireland, before spending 11 years in the newsroom in RTÉ. He pioneered the two-handed news bulletin with Anne Doyle, presenting it for three years. Derek presented the Rose of Tralee on two occasions.
